Range Hoods Installed Right the First Time
Bought a new range hood, or replacing one that's loud, weak, or worn out? Hawaiian Xpress installs range hoods and vent hoods across Colorado Springs. We mount it level and secure, connect it to power and your existing ductwork, and test the fan and lights before we leave.
A hood is heavier and more awkward than it looks, and it has to line up with the duct, the cabinets, and the cooktop below it. Getting the height, the seal, and the wiring right is what makes it pull smoke and grease out of your kitchen instead of just making noise.

Range Hoods We Install
Under-Cabinet Hoods
Mounted to the underside of the cabinet above your range. The most common style in Colorado Springs homes.
Wall-Mount Chimney Hoods
A statement hood mounted to the wall with a chimney cover that hides the duct.
Island Hoods
Hung from the ceiling over a cooktop on a kitchen island.
Hood Inserts
A built-in fan unit installed inside a custom cabinet or decorative hood.
Ducted or Ductless?
A ducted hood sends smoke, steam, and cooking smells outside through a duct in the wall or ceiling. It's the most effective option, especially over a gas range. A ductless (recirculating) hood pulls air through charcoal filters and returns it to the kitchen. It works where there's no duct, but the filters need replacing.
Many hoods can be set up either way. Tell us what you have when you call, and we'll confirm the new hood fits your duct and your space before the install.
What Every Install Includes
- Removal: We take down your old hood without damaging the cabinets or backsplash around it, and haul it away.
- Mounting: Your new hood goes up level, secure, and at the height the manufacturer recommends for your cooktop.
- Venting: We connect it to your existing duct and seal the joints, or set it up to recirculate if it is ductless.
- Power: We connect it to the existing power at the hood location.
- Testing and cleanup: We run every fan speed and light, check for rattles and air leaks, and clean up before we leave.
Range Hood Installation FAQ
- Can you install a range hood I bought myself?
- Yes. Most of our installs are hoods customers bought from a store or online. Have it delivered before your appointment and keep the box and parts together.
- Will my new hood fit my existing duct?
- Usually, but not always. Larger and more powerful hoods often need a bigger duct than the one they replace. Send us the model number when you book and we will check it against what you have.
- How high should a range hood be above the stove?
- Most manufacturers call for about 24 to 30 inches above an electric cooktop and 30 to 36 inches above a gas range. We follow the installation guide for your exact model.
- Do powerful hoods need makeup air?
- The International Residential Code calls for makeup air with kitchen exhaust hoods rated over 400 CFM, so the hood is not pulling air from other parts of your home. If you are choosing a high-powered hood, ask us about it before you buy.
- How long does a range hood installation take?
- Replacing a hood in the same spot usually takes a few hours. Island hoods and new locations take longer.
